Dear Parents, The whole world is going through an immense crisis period. Our anxiety as adults is on high alert and somewhere or the other perhaps we are transferring this anxiety to our children. It is time that we hold the reins of pacifying and comforting the little ones to keep them happy. To quote Oscar Wilde, “The best way to make children good is to keep them happy.” What happens sometimes is that the kids try to reduce that anxiety and try to take care of us but it should not be that way. We need to adults, ground and resource ourselves and feel confident that we can be there for our kids. It can be helpful to think of the things that have reduced stress in the past — maybe reaching out to friends, religion, therapy, or turning off the news every once in a while. Let us try to be the strength of our kids in the following ways: â— Remain calm and reassuring. â—Make yourself available to listen and to talk. â—Remember that viruses can make anyone sick, regardless of a person’s race or ethnicity. â—Pay attention to what children see or hear on television, radio or online. â—Consider reducing the amount of screen time focused on COVID-19 and provide information that is honest and accurate. â—Give children information that is truthful and appropriate for the age and developmental level of the child. â—Talk to children about how some stories on COVID-19 on the internet and social media may be based on rumors and inaccurate information. â—Teach children everyday actions to reduce the spread of germs. â—Play Board Games and watch movies with them â—Academics play an important role in a child’s life, but do not impose on your child the burden of it, because apparently they seem to be carefree but are otherwise scared. â—The teachers will take care of their academics, when they return joyfully to their classrooms. You as parents, spend time with them by solving some analytical mental ability problems, encouraging them to read story books. â—At the Primary school level, you might lead your child into improving their handwriting and learning the tables in a play way method. â—The Secondary and the Senior Secondary students may be guided to go through the lessons by downloading them from the NCERT website. â—You may play a game of quiz to apprise your child with the day to day happenings round the world. â—Now is the time when you can groom the tender minds mentally by giving them company and by bringing out innovative ideas to make each passing day interesting and not boring. Let us as parents and teachers shoulder the responsibility to keep our children stress-free and also teach them how to combat such crisis with smiles not tears. I sincerely believe that we need to educate their hearts for educating the mind without educating the hearst is no education at all. Stay home, stay safe!!!! Samarjit Jana
“Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.” - Plato Every child enters the beautiful garden of knowledge with sparkle in his eyes and innocence in his heart. It is evident therefore, that his quest for knowledge is unending and it is the school that teaches him to learn, unlearn and relearn as he paves his way towards achieving all that he aspires for. When we mention education, it weaves a simple picture in our mind of a student learning and a teacher teaching, but education is beyond the classical paper-pencil-blackboard theory. The world around us is constantly changing and we are aware that there are many challenges that lie ahead of us as we navigate around this world of changing demands. The need of the hour is to collaborate, innovate and keep growing in order to keep pace with the changes that are inevitable. Education and training today are to be aligned and geared to meet these remarkable challenges. We, at Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, do not make excuses for our students. We firmly believe that there are no barriers to achievement that cannot be overcome by a determined and resilient student along with a supportive school team. We specialise in establishing what each student needs in order to make this outstanding progress and ensure that no child is left behind. OUR VISION: Our vision at JVM, Shyamali is to empower students to acquire, demonstrate, articulate and value knowledge and skills that will support them, as life-long learners, to participate in and contribute to the global world and practise the core values of the school: respect, tolerance and inclusion, and excellence. We prepare and motivate our students for a rapidly changing world by instilling in them critical thinking skills a global perspective, and a respect for core values of honesty, loyalty, perseverance, and compassion. Students are guided to achieve success today and be prepared for tomorrow. To quote Robert Frost,” “Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self-confidence.” I believe that this aspect has been truly imbibed in the minds of our children to help them grow tall in their lives as the humble banyan and not like a proud eucalyptus.Sri.
